so lets talk a little football shall we. more specifically, lets talk about great qbs. and why we are seeing the greatest qb ever right now (and why terrific tom and big ben arent him.) frist of all id like to say that without a good D then a qb isnt worth anything. maybe even a good safety. take a look at the steelers this year. without troy palalalamaalllo they are terrible on D and more than likely are out of the playoff. the pats? same thing. sort of. didnt resign potential hall of famer rodney harrison and traded away stout dt richard seymour and their D is hurting and so instead of being 12-2 or something close to that they are about 8-5 and look average. another reason why the tom isnt the best ever- last year. dude doesnt even play and they still went 11-5 and made the playoffs. granted with brady they probably go 12-4 maybe even 13-3 but still they put in a guy (matt cassell) that had never started a COLLEGE game, much less an NFL game. and went 11-5. cmon people. its not brady its the system. granted tom has 3 rings and ben has 2, but how many would they win if they had to win based only on what the offense can do? then i bring you the greatest QB ever (and for sure of this decade) peyton manning. he lead his team to the most wins ever in a decade, throws for 4,000 yds every year of his career. and does it all with no D. oh and lets not forget peyton has had 3 head coaches. tom-1 and ben-2. so things change and he still wins. how about his great safety. former defensive mvp bob sanders? yeah he is out. and they still win. heck he plays more with out sanders then he does with him. lose one of the greatest wideouts ever (marvin harrison) no problem. he made stars out of no names. trade away not one, but two future hall of fame backs (marshall faulk and edgerrin james) dont worry he'll do what he does. which is get his team to win. take this past game for example. the jags carved up the colts D and peyton lead his team to victory again. the 7th this time that they have come from behind in the 4th qtr (most ever btw) and they are still 14-0. maybe its just some rambling but neither brady nor big ben have had to carry the load like peyton. both of them have had great D and big ben had the bus bettis to carry the load. the one year that peyton had a healthy D that actually played ok they won the super bowl. im not saying that they are gonna win it again this year, but if they can get some guys healthy on D the offense will be good enough to do the job.

"If I Had a Heisman Vote"
well first of all im sure that it would ever happen due to my blatant bias of the SEC and tennessee in particular. however, if i did (i would somehow manage to go back in time and give the heisman to peyton) and after that i would then vote on the top five of this year like this.
5. Ndamukong Suh DT Nebraska- was the most impressive player in the Big 12 title game, and will make lots of money in the NFL someday, but thats not what this award is about.
4. Toby Gerhart RB Stanford- led the nation in rushing yards and touchdowns. was a great back for a pretty good team, but thats not what this award is about.
3. Colt McCoy QB Texas- he threw for less yards, less td's, more interceptions, and had a lower completion percentage than last year. when he didnt win it. why should he win it this year? because he has been good in his career? try again. because he plays for texas? so what. because the other big named qbs already have theirs? im sorry, but thats not what the award is about.
2. Tim Tebow QB Florida- well the same holds true for timmy that it did for colt, except for the fact that timmy didnt get beat in the regular season in the toughest conference in the nation and chipped in 14 or so rushing tds...
which leaves us with...
1. Eric Berry DB Tennessee- why not people?
1. Mark Ingram RB Alabama- one of the most storied programs in the history of college football will finally get its first heisman winner. the best player on the best team gets my vote. and look at his season. 1500 yds and 15 tds. plus he played his best against the big boys. destroyed virginia tech, south carolina, lsu, ole miss, kentucky (all bowl bound) he had big days against scrubs miss st, utc, north texas, and fiu. had a pretty good day against tennessee and just when it doesnt look like he had a good day against arkansas you notice he chipped in a td catch that day. the only bad game he had was against auburn (and he might have been hurt) but nevertheless he played crappy. but...big time players make big time plays in big time games. and in the national championship against florida he tossed in 200 yds and 3 tds. who do you think should win it?

"Orange Colored Glasses- Vandy"
trying to get this out in time for the kentucky game. tough to write with the love fest going on for tim tebow right now, but hey i think the guy deserves every bit of it. he is the best player to have ever played college football. period. but let me begin.
Good News- i mean i know that this was vandy, and this is what most former UT players say about them "they always play you tough, but then let you win at the end." (unless rick clausen is your quarterback...) but nevertheless, here are some good things from last saturday. hardesty ran wild for career attempts and yards. 32 for 175. pretty good. luke stocker had a monster td catch right before the half. the crompdaddy through for 220 and 2 tds (bringing his total for the year to 25) oh and wes brown ran a pick back to end the game. pretty cool. and we had a walkon kid from baylor kicking for us....hope he doesnt miss.
Bad News- well...its bad that eric berry hasnt broken the record yet....and...??? it was vandy. yeah the norman kid had a few yards, but he usually gets a ton of yards.
Kentucky Prediction- randall cobb does it all for the cats, but its too bad he doesnt have much to go with him. the big orange get FS jackson back tonight, which should help slow the cates down enough for the crompdaddy and montario hardesty to get things going on offense. looks pretty dang cold in kesucky right now, which hopefully we will pound it on the ground and beat them physically pretty bad. big game bowl implications for both teams or at least the winner. 24 years in a row...i think the vols make it 25. big orange win 25- 13!

"Orange Colored Glasses- Ole Miss"
well let me say this from the start- before we even played a single snap this year i stated that we would lose to florida, alabama, and ole miss for sure. i was hoping for us to be able to go 8-4, but then we lost to ucla. so now its hopefully going to be 8-5. oh and consider this. "you cant get too high when you win and too low when you lose." i think UT fans are the epitome of that statement. after WKU we were going all the way. the next week when we lost to ucla we were going to go 1-11. lets be realistic people. we are an average football team. we have won some good games against good teams, and we have also lost some bad games to good teams. average at best.
Good News- nothing. nothing good happened. we got our brains beat in by a decent team. crompton played well enough i guess, but couldnt seem to get us over the hump sometimes...gerald jones and denarious moore had 5 grabs each.
Bad News- the rebels had dexter mccluster. he had 300 yds and 4 tds. enough said. well that and our defense lost another linebacker, all of the controversy surrounding the attempted robbery, our offensive line getting dominated, and we had another fg blocked!
Other News- this saturday is senior day. and this means that the vol seniors get announced and get to run through the T by themselves so that the fans and other players alike can thank them. it is a very emotional time for some of the players, and on the day when peyton manning ran for the fans as well. needless to say, this is an event held for the seniors and seniors only. which is why it really upsets me that the lane train is changing that. the way we play- change, practice- change, coach in games-recruit-talk to the media- change, uniforms- eh...change (i really like the orange pants on the road btw) but letting non-seniors run through the T - dont change. if lane wants to honor eric berry- who is probably playing in his last home game as a vol, thats fine- honor him somway. video tribute, play qb, something. he is a captain for crying outloud. but i dont think its a good idea for him to run through the T as a junior, just because he is a "special player" or even a good/maybe the best ever player. guys like peyton manning and heath shuler didnt get to run as juniors. hey and while youre at it lane how about letting gerald jones, ben martin, chris walker, and luke stocker all run. they are special juniors. or how about bryce brown. he is special too right? we are becoming more and more like the NFL everyday and i dont like it. if EB wants to run by himself, then come back next year and get the loudest ovation ever. but saturday he should run through with every other underclassmen as a part of the team, not a special individual.
i guess im getting more and more traditional (read old or old school) that i thought. oh well. seemed to work out pretty well for guys like fulmer, majors, dickey and neyland... Go Vols!
Vandy Preview- well they have freshman who is about to break herschel walker's all purpose yardage record for freshman. and before we go touting this kid as the next herschel- keep in mind he did it in 12 games, and herschel did it in 10... vandy ranks behind the vols in every offensive category except rushing, and they rush for 2 more ypg than we do. granted we are playing three frat boys at linebacker this week and a walkon at FS, but somehow i think the vols will cover the points (17) and get the win. maybe its the fact that vandy has only beaten us once in my life??? i dont know. call me crazy. 42-14 winner winner chicken dinner.

"My Poor Reds"
i know that most of you dont give a dang about the reds, or maybe even baseball in general, but i do. and yes i know that the world series just ended and pitchers and catchers dont report for another 3 months or so, this is what baseball purists like to call the "hot stove" season. this is the time of year when teams are trying to get better, dump salary, or stay ahead of the market. this is also the time of year when fans can start hoping for a better year and getting hopes high for the following season...
what boggles my mind is how and why the reds choose to spend their money- which we dont have much to spend to begin with, and the fact that we are trying to dump our 4 highest paid players (brandon phillips, bronson arroyo, aaron harang, and francisco cordero) and ill be honest only one of those makes sense- cordero. with closers being- 1st plentiful, and 2nd- seem to come from nowhere every year, why would a small/medium market team pay so highly for an so called "elite" closer? granted he did have a pretty good year last year, but who knows what the next will bring- and we arent a big market team so we need to be careful on who and what we spend our money on. but just bear with me and ill show you why we should keep the others. first of all the dodgers, phillies, and cardinals all seem like locks to repeat and get to the playoffs. but who will win the wild card? marlins? mets? braves? cubs? giants? nobody knows and any of those teams could make a stong case for it, but so can we. our lineup could be something like this.
1st base- joey votto- a great young slugger who hit .322 last year with 84rbis and 25 hrs- despite missing 30+ games. could move to left to fill that hole and help make room for another young gun yonder alonzo
2nd base- brandon phillips- one of our highest paid players and rightfully so. easily one of the top 3-5 second basemen in baseball (utley, kinsler, pedrioa and who else? you think robinson cano puts up numbers when he is the only bat in the lineup- yeah right.) ps he is a continual 30/30 threat and last year knocked in almost 100 rbis and that was with the horrawful start he had and missing a month due to injuries
short stop- this is where things could get tricky...cause we dont have one. and all good teams have a good SS. last year jerry hairiston, alex gonzalez, and paul janish combined to hit .317 or something like that. internet rumors seem to think that we are going to try and sign orlando cabrera, which he would be alright- and he has had some postseason success!
3rd base- and this is where things get stupid for the reds. scott rolen- at 11 mil a year. granted we did play better down the stretch, and he gives us a veteran, but we traded edwin encarnacion- a young and upcoming (error and injury prone 3b) for someone on the way out. but we are going to pay so much for his service it doesnt make sense...
Out Field- (who it should be) well jay bruce is our new slugger (strike out or homer) gets our RF, drew stubbs- our top pick a few years ago and played really really well in his call up should play CF and since johnny gomes lance nix seem to be the same player coupled with wladimir balentien and maybe yonder alonzo/joey votto. id say this- chris heisey- a red hot rookie to be, yonder alonzo (if hes ready) or johnny gomes. ok so LF may be a little up in the air, and to be honest we have some guys that im not even sure are still with the reds (chris dickerson anybody? darnell mcdonald?)
OutField- (who it will be) RF- jay bruce, CF- willy taveras- a highly overpaid (3 million) and underproducing player- something the reds cant have. and LF- yeah i dont know. but itll be some scrub for sure because dusty baker is a moron.
Catcher- another interesting spot for the reds- we need to resign ramon hernandez. period. corky miller, craig tatum and ryan hanigan suck.
Pitching- (and if you think that pitching doesnt matter- youre dumb. its why teams win. yankees- great pitching, phils- same things, braves of the 90's check. why the dodgers havent won in the playoff- no starting pitching, tigers and chisox of a few years ago, angles- good pitching. i mean really i could go on and on) but this could be our starting 5
1. Edinson Volquez- has the best stuff, but might not be back in time.
2. Johnny Cueto- another young live arm that keeps improving
3. Bronson Arroyo- a 15 game winner that eats innings and 3.84 era last year
4. Aaron Harang- no longer the top of the line starter we once thought, but he also eats innings and has a tremendous strike out to walk ratio. (however something doesnt happen when he pitches- the reds dont win....)
5. Homer Bailey- the former minor league sensation has finally arrived and was arguably the best pitcher in the national league, maybe even the majors the last month of the season 6-1 with a 1.70 era in his last seven starts. its true. go look it up.
and waiting in the wings in case of suckiness or injury is micah owings and darryl thompson (a 4A player ie- dominates triple A, but not ready for the bigs- and did win his first career start ever- at yankee stadium!
Bullpen- mike lincoln, danny rea herrera, jared "chops" burton, and arthur rhodes could/should/and have done a decent job in getting the ball to the closer (whom i say we need to rid ourselves of) and promote nick masset to that spot. but who knows. our problem last year was too many crappy players (janish, mcdonald, dickerson, taveras) playing too much. votto, bruce, and bphil missing at least a month each with injuries- ps you take the three best bats out of the lineup of any team and they would stuggle much less a team with as little talent as the reds. and a lack of starting pitching (volquez missing most of it, harang the last 8 weeks, homer bailey not getting to the bigs until late aug, micah owings not being ready)
and to think that we finished 6 games below .500 and 13 games out of first, despite not winning a game for 28 days (seriously) maybe next year will finally be the return of the big red machine...

"Who Shot Charlie Brown?"
Many of you are probably curious as to the title of my post today, but there are a select few that know creator of this quote. and for the record im not talking about charles schultz. No, today i come to honor a different man- a great man- my grandfather. for most of my life at grandma and papa's any time someone wanted to watch a movie and he got asked what he wanted to watch he always said..."who shot charlie brown" (and it took me several years to realize that it wasnt even a movie- and if it is a movie im not sure that i want to see it haha!) but, and i have nothing to back this up, but lots of people talk about THE question or questions that they are going to ask jesus when they get to heaven- and if there really is such a question and answer time, i sure do hope that papa asked him that...
what follows is a letter that has been floating around in various forms/states/ideas and like for the last several months. i have no idea how its really going to turn out, and maybe this is just my way of dealing with it....
Dear Dub-
It is so different now. and you know that better than i do. It different for me just calling you that, but it seemed like the right thing to do. But Papa, im not sure what else to say. Its been tough without you. We all miss you something terrible, and we all love you very much. I feel bad for miller, because he is the one left with you. I got your name, but he got you. just everything about you and the way you lived your life, i think he feels the pressure of it too sometimes, but dont get me wrong, you left me a pretty good name to live up too, and it wont be easy. We will do our best to make you proud.
Papa, this is something that i am proud of- you and the quiet life that you led. Throughout the week of your celebration service there were so many people that came to say goodbye. Papa youll never realize the impact that you had. NEVER. every time that we were there more and more people wanted to come see you and say goodbye. and as tough as it was losing you, seeing all of the wonderful friends and family was nice. with you being a man that never said much, much less anything bad- i sometime wonder if you ever made an enemy. you wouldnt believe the amount of people that showed up. i was blown away. You made some really really good friends while you were here, and they are taking really good care of grandma- so ill thank them when you get the chance.
Here is the thing that i am most impressed with- on the day that god called you home, as we were all at still at the hospital brother bert( a neat guy himself) was talking to me and miller and was telling us a story of one of the last visits that he had with you. he told us that the only thing that you were concerned with, was that you hadnt done enough for jesus. (now i would argue that every christian can say this, but thats not the point) and Papa i just want to tell you that its not true at all. I cant think of a more Godly example of a person- the way that you carried yourself all the time, the way that cared about your wife, and the way that you loved your children and grandchildren. The best way to look at a man's life is to look at his family, and Papa, you did a pretty darn good job. If nothing else you showed me something that is priceless, Papa you showed me what true love really is. First of all you were married to the same woman for over FIFTY YEARS! i just hope that i get married and live to be 50. what an incredible testimony to you both. and i have no doubt that it was your unyeilding faith and belief in jesus that got you through most of those tough times. you were always so quick to tell us that god had been good to you- and i believe you. another way that you showed me true love was in your relationship to me. now i know that you and grandma grew up in different times and things were tough and you didnt have much, but that didnt matter to you. because you had each other. and i know that you and grandma didnt have tons of money, but you showed us love by being there for us. it didnt matter what or where it was. if you could be there you were. sometime even just coming up to watch baseball practice in college on nice days. i miss that. and papa i know that you know im a head coach now, and itll be great and i hope that lots of family gets to come and see, but it just wont be the same without you there. thanks for that. i never said it enough, but thanks.
there is so much that i want to tell you, but papa there is so much that i want you to tell me. How awesome is heaven? i mean i know that i wont ever understand until i get there but i cant imagine? and papa tell me what its like to be healthy again? how does it feel to be free from the oxygen? as much as we came to accept it as you, it sure must be nice to not have to worry about it or your tanks anymore right? (oh if you can believe it- its quieter at grandma's now..) But Papa this is what i really want you to tell me. and i know that there were lots of talk about you and uncle rudy getting to go on hikes again together, and thats a nice picture and all- but what was it like when you met jesus? if uncle rudy got to take you on that great hike that would be neat, but words cant describe what it must be like. seeing jesus face to face. being able to worship him in person- and i know that you were just a hummer in church, but im willing to bet you can sing in heaven. gosh the things that youve seen and done. how amazing.
i know that this letter is getting long but there are just a few more things. Papa, your birthday would have been saturday and while grandma stayed up till midnight just so she could sing happy birthday to you loud and proud, i got you a present. and this is not something that can be bought with corruptible things like money, gold, silver, or jewlery. this can only be paid for by the blood of jesus. and maybe its not for you, but i have know doubt its because of you and your inspiration to me. friday night and saturday morning we went on a youth trip and i had a great time. but papa, i got to tell somebody about jesus. something that i had never been able to do. we had 5 get saved that night, and i was able to lead one of them to christ. i just wish i couldve seen your face when the angles came in to write his name in the book of life, but it wasnt anything that i did dont worry- god gets all the glory for it. but papa, dont you see? you did so much with your life- and because of it at least one more person is going to heaven. and thats enough right there. im not giving up though. ive been praying for this for years, and while he may have been the first that god gave me the opportunity to lead to salvation i surely am praying that he isnt the last. so happy birthday.
In closing i just want to tell you that as much as we miss you, and as tough as its been, especially on grandma- we know that you are in so much of a better place that we cant even begin to understand- and it would extremely selfish if we asked you to come back. so dont come back. dont you dare come back. we want you to stay where you are, and without any of the physical problems that you had yours last few year- we will see you again, so dont worry about us we will be fine.
Now, as you were always fond of saying, and im not sure why you would need them in heaven- a place with streets of gold, crystal seas, and pearly gates...Papa- dont take no wooden nickles...
I Love You

what follows is a letter that has been floating around in various forms/states/ideas and like for the last several months. i have no idea how its really going to turn out, and maybe this is just my way of dealing with it....
Dear Dub-
It is so different now. and you know that better than i do.

Orange Colored Glasses- South Carolina and Memphis
Ok i know that ive missed the last couple of weeks on this, so it might be a tad shorter, but im trying to get caught up today...
South Carolina-
Good News- i mean what can i say about this game on halloween. we started it off with a bang- two forced fumbles, two fumlbe recoveries and two big orange(black) touchdowns in about 4 minutes and never trailed or even looked back. so much was put in to the vols switching to black- more on that in a minute- that people forget that we whooped a top 25 team that night and dominated them the whole game. Montario Hardesty continues to impress me every single time out. he had 120yds and 2 tds that night- as well as a sick spin move on the first td he scored. as i said in the stadium that night- he is quickly moving up my list of all time vols. fighting through injuries, and several players ahead of him on the depth chart- to come out and have a season like this is pretty cool.
ok and what the heck kind of offense was socar trying to run? they had tons of talent/size with wideouts and tightends and i know that they threw for over 300 yds, but it was like nothing seemed to work. good job monte! and chad cunningham did a nice job filling in for daniel lincoln on place kicking duties...
Bad News- and i guess i need to give socar partial credit for this, but we were only 4 of 15 on third down conversions, granted we got such a big lead early it didnt matter, but i would have liked to see us convert a few more of those no matter the score or the opponent...
Other News- well in case you didnt notice, we donned black jerseys for the first time since 1921. and ill admit, at first i thought that they were as shaq says "horawful" (horrible+awful=horawful). but after seeing them on the tv replay they looked a little bit better. still wish that we had on white pants, but i guess we look like pumpkins and candy corn a lot anyways. as long as this doesnt turn in to being a every year type deal im ok with that. btw ask the georgia fans about the "black out" now. i think that they are like 2-4 or something...
and i this is what im excited about- being able to use them in next years ncca college football video game for PS3.
Memphis
Good News- the crompdaddy reigns!!! 300 yds and 5 tds! what a baller we have a qb! i mean he is 4th in the nation and leads the sec in td passes! ok seriously after throwing 6 picks in three games he has now thrown 3 in his last 6 games. much better. eric berry cut the magic number in half- and with 4 games left on the schedule*( im including us getting at least 6 wins and a bowl bid) surely he will break the record. ps dude has over 100yds on fumble recoveries too...we didnt run the ball a lot, but brown, hardesty, and oku combined for over 130yds. 1st team defense was off the chain...nick stephens even got in on the action tallying 100yds passing and 1 td.
Bad News-well lets go with the 2nd team defense. they gave up 21 pts and most of the 400yds, plus the tigers controlled the ball for most of the second half. now granted we were playing mostly 2-4 stringers, but still its memphis. id hate to see what would happen if we put these guys in against somebody good. then again thats why they arent starting and they got valuable experience to help prepare them for the future- another reason why getting a bowl bid will help us- those young guys get another month to practice with our stout coaching staff...
Other News- not much from this game. we expected to win and we did. please keep in mind this- crompton has 14 of his 21 (5-wku, 4-uga, and 5-memphis) so not exactly great D that he is throwing against, but hey- i would be worried if he didnt put up stats like that against bad teams. the boy is alright, not great, but im sure that people will always have the turnover prone crompton as the image. much like the one of erik ainge going uncle rico against lsu a few years ago- despite that EA is statistically one of the top qbs to ever play at UT and lead the vols to a 19-7 record his last two years...
Ole Miss Preview- its time to put up or shut up for the vols this week. we have beaten the teams that we should have (memphis, south carolina, georgia, wku, ohio) lost to teams we should have (florida, alabama) and lost two toss-ups (ucla, auburn) if we want to be a good team we need to beat a team that we shouldnt. we have proven this year that we can go and play on the road with the number one team in the land. twice. now we need to go play on the road and win. it will be tough because the have a good D- but not as good as some and QB jevan snead has got to break out of his slump at some point. id feel a lot better about this game now that they have been beaten several times- including a loss to south carolina- and we now have a balanced attack on offense. big orange have NEVER lost in oxford and i dont think that it will start on saturday. vols 31- rebels 21

"Pudge Poll- Week 10"
alright folks, a lot has happened in the last couple of weeks in the world of college football and im sure that there are millions that are waiting to hear whatpudgethinks about it. and i know that i didnt even get to talk about my vols and winning streak that they are on, so im gonna try to get that out sometime this week. plus a bball game (we are 3-4 right now). friday night is an all night trip to atlanta, revival this weekend at church, plus a special tribute later in the week. gonna be busy. so this is not as detailed as it should be, nor does it line up with the big polls, but here it is. and im going in reverse order because i dont have a lot of time...
1. Florida- "to be the man, you gotta beat the man" and they aint coming down from the top spot until they lose aka when they travel to knoxville next sept...
2. Alabama- they have played a much tougher schedule than texas and as far as im concerned are way ahead of them anyways. i cant wait for the national semifinal game in december aka SEC championship
3. Texas- well colt mccoy finally broke out of his season long slump against an ok team in ok st. hoping for them to get upset so that one of the next two teams gets in the BCS game.
4. Tie- TCU and Cincy- tcu- boasts and great D and cincy a great O. both are undefeated. both still have one tough game on the scedule and both will need help to get to the title game.
6. Georgia Tech- best team in the formerly tough conference known as the ACC.
7. Boise State- failed to impress voters on back to back friday night televised games. myself included.
8. LSU- eh...so what they got beat by florida and bama. id say that they could beat any of the other team ahead of them....
9. Oregon- yeah i know that they got upset last week. and by boise. but pac 10 champs are pac 10 champs.
10. USC- somebody explain to me how the trojans are ranked ahead of the ducks in real life? a loss at washington!!! and a got dismantled by the ducks. cmon people. face it. usc isnt that good this year.
11. tie- Iowa, Ohio State i think both of them suck. iowa finally lost- trailed in 9 of 10 games now. winner this saturday will be big 10 champ. congrats to the suckeyes. hope you dont get blown out by somebody in the bowl game.
13. Pittsburgh- i dont know anything about them. honest.
14. Miami- this is about right for randy shannons young team. top 10 next year.
15. Utah- big game upcoming against tcu...
16. Houston- Kasey Keenum should get an invite to the heisman. and then finish 3rd. behind ingram from bama and tebow. you question tebows stats- consider this. 0. as in 0 losses. the only stat that matters. best player on best team.
17. Penn St
18. Arizona- mike stoops is the best stoops in the game...
19. Oklahoma State- top wideout dez bryant is out for the year...
20. Wisconsin
21. BYU
22. Virginia Tech- wow. so much for my preseason national championship pick...3 losses. cmon beamer!
23. tie- South Florida, West Virginia- both big east schools are decent, but not as good as cincy and dont have enough credit or quality wins to move up. one will be out after they play this weekend. ill take the bulls.
25. Tennessee- thats right. the big orange crack the top 25. and why not. we are a national powerhouse, with great advantage when we play at home, a national player of the year contender, great young recruits ready to help, and one of the most exciting coaches in the nation.
ill let you decide on which UT team im talking about- football, mens bball, or womens bball. and here in the answer- youre right.

Orange Colored Glasses- Alabama
ok i need to say im sorry for not getting a top 25 out this week, but we have had three games, and last weekend was jabez so i didnt get to see many games anyways. plus, for better or worse the world series is going on. the following is a recap of the bama loss and socar preview.
Good News= well when you lose a game 12-10 i think that its safe to say that you did a lot of things well, but nothing great. crompton keeps improving and made several big passes. luke stocker is an improvement over brandon warren. former tight end aaron douglas now starting at right tackle helps us to continue to get better on offense. oh and how much better does cromp look when throwing to gerald jones and denarious moore? along those lines, we moved the ball every possession on alabama. getting past the 30 on several. plus our D continues to be one of the best in the nation. we held bama to FGs all game including 2 from 48+ and eric berry cause mr heisman himself mark ingram to fumble for the first time in his career.
Bad News= outside of the loss overall. consider the following. on one drive we were first and 10 at the bama 22 and didnt score. another drive we were 1st and 10 from the bama 30 and didnt score. (of those, we imploded with a sack the other drive a phantom holding call got us- which it looked like sullins just got flat out run over.) then we missed a FG, and had 2 blocked. im not sure what else to say after that.
Other News= im tired of people blaming the refs. granted we had 100 yds in penalties and they only had 10, but still. i feel like we beat our selves. what happens if instead of sitting on it we try to run a few more plays before attempting the last fg? and who cares that cody took off his helmet. the ball was laying on the ground. all we had to do was scoop and score. ballgame. upset of the year. lane train gets a signature win in year 1. but think about this- after keeping it close with what we have this year against bama and fla do you really want to play the big orange next year? or the year after that? or the years to come?
South Carolina Prediction- this is the game of the year. if somehow we can come back from the guy punch against bama and the emotional letdown that followed and get a win i think we can run the table. if we lose..we are gonna be 6-6 and bowling in nashville. gross. socar presents another team with a really good D, but they are going to be as good as bama- and we moved it on them. still i gotta give them the edge in special teams. what i will be curious to see is how we play against a team that has a good passing offense. we have played mostly spread options teams and im unsure of how our D will do, but i do like the chances of us being able to get some turnovers. if crompton can do as good or better has he has the last two games it could be something really special to see. i say the big orange take this one 31-24. call me crazy.

World Series 2009
if you are still keeping up with the debacle known as post season baseball, then you know that its almost over. finally. a month and a half after it started. i mean as a baseball fan- i cant stand the playoffs, and no its not because the reds arent in it. its for two reasons. 1- why they heck does every single game seem to start at 11:30 pm? seriously id like to stay up and watch some of the endings, but i need to go to sleep before 3 am. and 2- somebody explain to me why teams get 24 off days during the 162 game regular season and then get 37 in the postseason? its baseball. you play everyday. period. and dont give me the bullcrap about giving the weaker teams a more fair chance. there are no weak teams in the playoffs! but nevertheless here are some thougts and my pick for the winner.
1st Base- mark teixeria vs ryan howard. well most would say that you cant go wrong with your choice...and i agree. both guys put up tons of power numbers, but tex is slightly better on D
2nd Base- chase utley vs robinson cano- utley has the mvp, but cano is still sick. both are in the top five as far as second sackers are concerned. once again pretty even with utley getting the advantage in power...
SS- jeter vs jroll- i mean 6 one way half-dozen the other. both guys are very solid in all areas of the game. rollins has an mvp(jeter may still get one this year) and jeter has 4 rings...
3rd Base- alex rodriguez vs perdo feliz. ok well the yanks take this one with authority. arod is still one of the best players in all of baseball- now and all time.
OF- werth, ibanez, and victorino vs the "melk man", johnny damon, and nick swisher. unless you are somewhat of a baseball fan you probably would just take the yanks cause youve heard of damon, but i think that i have to give the edge to the phills on this one. werth and ibanez provide power and the flyin hawiian provides everything else.
DH- matsui vs matt stairs?- cleary the yanks take this one with the phillies being a national league team- they dont have the DH spot locked up. could be stairs, cairo, dobbs or someone else. but the yanks will face the problem of what to do with matsui in the NL park....
Starting Pitching- Cliff Lee and CC are both dominant aces. Pedro and Pettitte are both postseason monsters. Cole Hamels and AJ Burnett are both equally dominant and delirious at the same time. i mean i think that both of those guys are really good, but both are very streaky. could be the key to series for each team.
Catchers- hip hip jorge vs carlos ruiz- you tell me who you want to have back there.
well, when you look at all the stars on both teams, power, speed, defense. holy cow what a world series nobody will watch. oh and great starting pitching from both teams to boot! im considering dvring the whole thing so i can actually watch it. so what will it come down to?
Bullpen- yanks can throw out guys like phil hughes, joba, and chad gaudin. while the phils counter with JA Happ, Chan Ho Park, and Joe Blanton. all of those guys are former/future starters, and i think fans of either team feel comfortable while any of those guys are in. there are some questionable arms for sure, but with each team having such good starting pitching i dont think that will be a problem. and lets not forget this great rule in baseball- good pitching beats good hitting everytime. even in the playoffs and especially in the world series. so who does it come down to?
Closer- brad lidge vs mo rivera. a perfect closer vs the perfect closer. the only closer to not allow a run this postseason vs the greatest postseason closer ever. i know that lidge seems to have things turned around now that its october, but mo has had it figured out for year, and if youre honest with yourself who do you want closing out game seven of the world series. rivera or lidge? thats what i give the yanks the edge- they have the best closer in baseball, and my support. at least for the next month it will take to play 7 games- then i will hate them just like everybody else. ps Reds vs A's 2010...

Orange Colored Glasses- Georiga
wow. wow. wow. i have no idea what to say about the game two weeks ago. i mean great win for the big orange...but it was against a very bad georgia team...never the less. here goes nothing.
Good News- well beside the whole jon crompton played the best game ever thing. which i think can be attributed to a few things. 1. uga pass defense is just slightly better than western kentucky's was. 2. he got his veteran recievers back and healthy (jones had 2 tds and moore had a great catch and run for a td) and 3. play action pass/rollout. it was incredible how much we ran these plays- but it was great because if we wanted to run the ball we sure could do that too. montario hardesty finished just shy of 100 yds. crompton continued to throw to open recievers and this game they caught the ball actually. now granted uga's D isnt the best, but we pretty much dominated from the start and thats what you have to do if you want to win. plus this win got us to 3-3 and with vandy, kentucky, and memphis still on the schedule should get us the 6 needed wins to go bowling. (consider this 47-1 in my life vs candy and kensucky and memphis has only beaten the big orange ONCE in history- sadly i was there that day...) oh and lets go visis the D. well they kept georgia out of the red zone- for the whole game. enough said.
Bad News- well special teams was pretty awful- kiffin even said so. kickoff coverage is nonexistant and led to a td. and somebody tell me what the heck nukese richardson thinks about when returning punts. there is no coach in america that teaches his return man to dance around the ball like he does when i bounces close to him. MORON. and in other news the best player in college football made one of the most incredible plays on the ball ive ever seen...and some goober call it a fumble not a pick. now i know the guy caught the ball and was trying to make "an athletic move" but hello--- its called home cooking. give the guy a pick and let him have the record. oh well maybe this week.
bottom line was that we were a better team in 2 phases of the game (offense and defense) than georgia and thats why we won. plus georgia doesnt have a run game.
Prediction for Bama- not so long ago this was the most important game of the year..and could be again very soon. the first matchup for the lane train could be a tough one. i really cant give UT the edge on anything. however, we are coming off of an off week and bama is worried about where they are ranked. finally last week mcelroy looked human and bama struggled a tad and somehow we have got to get them to do it again. well chances are they wont be able to throw it too much on us...and we will see how our D stacks up against a power running team. i still dont think that we have much success on offense. low scoring affair for sure. maybe even 14-3 bama. nevertheless ill be cheering hard for my vols and the impossible, improbable upset. but thats why they play the game. one last thing. avoid the rush and hate bama early.

Pudge Poll #8
ladies and gentlemen, i apologize for this being a few days later than normal, and it will not be the detailed reports that you are familiar with. mainly because its been a bust week of fall break, ive got to get another orange colored glasses post out tomorrow- because we are leaving for Camp Jabez with the youth on friday!! so ill give you the top 25 but it might be a list.
oh and let me say this. as far as im concerned there are only two good teams in the nation. alabama and florida. everybody else is playing for third. period. texas is not nearly as good as last year, usc always chokes against a no name, okla doesnt have a qb, notre dame and michigan are overrated as always. ohio state sucks. cicny is good, but no conference cred. boise is ok. but everybody is tired of hearing them cry. there shouldnt be a national title this year. just call the game in atlanta the first sat in dec the big dance and name bama/florida winner sec and national champ. cause thats whats gonna happen anyways.
25. Sale Creek Middle School Boys Basketball Team (2-0) after beating normal park by 20 (a team they lost by 2pts last year) the might panthers returned home on the friday before fall break (without our 8th grade PG for the 2nd straight game) and beat CSAS for the first time in recent memory. last year we lost be about 30 and this year we won by 2. the highlight of the game is being up by 5, CSAS hits a 3 at the buzzer, and our guys thought we lost cause their fans and players got really excited. awesome. way to pay attention fellas. "yeah i was finishing up the stats for the game and noticed that our guys were kind of upset, and i just looked down the bench and told them- yeah thats it fellas. we won. go shake hands." said coach haynes shortly after the game.
24. South Florida- tough loss to cincy last week. not having senior qb matt grothe cost them. although freshmen bj daniels is exciting, hes not there yet.
23. Oklahoma- 8 plays with bradford= 80yds. 63 without= 220. or how about this. 10yds per play with vs 3.5 without. you tell me...
22. West Virginia
21. Kansas- colorado? really?
20. the team that LOST to purdue. coached by jim tressell, qb is terrell pryor, never wins a big game....you get the point
19. South Carolina
18. Houston- kasey keenum for heisman.
17. Penn State
16. Texas Tech
15. Oklahoma State
14. BYU- big game for heisman hopeful max hall and co this week
13. Oregon
12. Virginia Tech
11. Iowa
10. TCU- undefeated and unproven
9. Miami- these boys are still alive in the everybody else bracket, but i think they are about a year away from being back in the national title talk.
8. Georiga Tech- huge win over the hokies last week, and after switching my college football offense to the triple option i have new found respect for the yellow jackets.
7. USC- they beat notre dame. it was pretty close. but still a good road win. just tell me this. when is the last time that someone with that much talent lost to a nobody? they do it every year. cmon pete carroll. get it together.
6. LSU- there is an old saying that goes something about the week AFTER playing lsu teams play like crap. look at the last two teams they played and tell me if that still doesnt hold true. georgia- the next week got drubbed by my vols. and florida- played the worst game thus far in the season...
5. Boise State- i mean they beat tulse by 7. ill give you a dollar if you can tell me tulsa's nickname without looking it up. thats why they will never play for it all. they dont play ANYBODY.
4. Texas- i know i might catch flak, but i dont think that they are that good this year and will get drubbed by the sec champ- if they get there. colt mccoy is lost this year.
3. Cincinnati-on the road gets a huge win against south florida. oh and btw- their heisman hopefull qb tony pike- started last year 5th on the depth chart. 5th! you cant tell me your teams 5th stringer... oh and he comes out and their #2 guy ran for 120 yds and 2 tds. cmon. brian kelly is a big time coach and will get a big time program very soon. runner up to lane kiffin btw.
2. Alabama- my only complaint is why is julio jones 4th in catches....on the team!!!! saban- throw that dude the ball. but you know what? they dont need too. they have the 3rd best defense and mark "ill run for 250" ingrham. i saw them direct snap it to him about 7 times in a row and south carolina couldnt stop it. not hand it, snap it. there wasnt even a fake handoff on a few plays. sick.
1. Florida- a few things you dont do. you dont spit in the wind, tug on superman's cape, or beat florida. ever. or as long as tim tebow is there. and i know that they "suspended" the officiating crew, and i know some people say that they blew those calls yada yada yada. BUT. did the officials MAKE florida turn it over 4 times - 3 in the red zone? did the officials cause the arkansas kicker miss 2 fgs in the 4th qtr? or the florida kicker for the matter? did the officials have anything to do with florida driving 70 yards for the game winner at the end of the 4th qtr? no, no no, and heck no. dont get me wrong, maybe they were not so great calls, but end the end arkansas has nobody to blame but themselves. defense wins championships and they have. meanwhile florida has the nations #1. all hail tebow!

Be Careful What You Pray For...part 2
well its been a little while since ive given yall an update on whats going on in my life, and i left off with some stories about me attempting to witness to people at the UT game a couple of weeks ago. and there are some things that ive learned these last few weeks that i want to share with you, and then i have a prayer request or two.
first of all, we have learned that there isnt a negative result in witnessing to people. A- when you witness to someone they accept christ- which is a good result. B- when you witness to someone, maybe they dont get saved, but you plant a seed that someday leads to them getting saved- which is a good result. and C- maybe you witness to someone and they reject you (or more importantly your message) well thats ok too, because the bible tells us that those that are rejected for the cause of christ will be rewarded in heaven. and whats better than eternal rewards? so another good result. in the class we are learing that all we are called to do it to witness to people- its not our job to make sure that they read their bibles, or go to church, or even accept christ, we are just called to tell them about jesus. and my next point is a way to do that.
last week we learned about tracts. and i know that everybody has seen or been given a tract before, but maybe youve never understood why. well here are a few points to think about. tracts never argue, they always present the gospel in a clear way, they never fail to explain things, they always say what they want to say and the list goes on and on. something that i have noticed is that while it is still very tough for me to just go out and verbally witness to someone, it is pretty easy for me to give them a tract. and i am starting to build a neat little library of some pretty cool tracts. at the moments im kind of looking for a medium to be honest. handing out tracts is great, but i feel like i can do more than that. but im pretty scared/nervous/unsure about my ability to witness to people. i need something in between!! but im sure that practice will make it better- not easier mind you, just better.
so...a story. on saturday before and after the UT game Nicki (my girlfriend) and i were handing out tracts to different people. and it was great! i saw several people take the cards and read them front and back. tailgaters, college students, families lots of people. i even left one at dunkin donuts! in the credit card slot at a gas pump, lots of cool places that you can give/leave for people to find. but i need your help in this. things were going so great on saturday and i was really pumped about all the cool things god was doing...until this one guy didnt take my tract. and i knew it was going to happen and i kept telling myself that it would, and finally it did. and i cant say that looking back i shouldnt have tried to give it to him, because everybody needs jesus, and i was just doing what i need to do. the problem was/is- after that i shut down. i didnt know what to do or how to act. she even reminded me about all the good things that we had done that day, but all i could think about was the one bad thing that happened. i mean it was so bad i forgot to tell her about the two that i gave out in the next couple of days (the little tokyo workers didnt know i had left one, but they were cussing and fussing when they found it- hey at least they heard the gospel...) and then this woman at the bank was awesome. david ivarson and i went to the bank on tuesday and the lady was talking to us like normal and we were joking with her and just having a pretty good time. when it was time for us to leave she told us "yall have made my day. thanks for being nice" or something like that. and so i asked her if she had facebook, she said that she didnt, so i asked her if her kids did- and of course they did. so i handed her a tract that just said "facebook" on the front and told her to check out the facts on the back at somepoint that day and walked away. just as we got to the door she yelled at us "HEY!" and i thought she was mad, but she had a huge smile on her face and said "i bet this card will make my day!" and all i said as i said a little prayer for her was "i sure hope it does"
i guess what im asking for is just some encouragement in prayers. i know that everything we do for the cause of christ is great! and i want to do more of it, but i dont want it to be like a job. i want to do it out of the joy of my heart, and i dont want to be to harsh on myself. help me to keep a proper perspective of what i should/need/want to be doing. god is good and i know that he will take care of me, but some friendly prayers wont hurt anything. but once again...you better be extra careful what you pray for- especially if its for me- because you just might be the person i come talking to...or trying to give you a tract. let me ask you this. if you died just after reading this great rambling...where would you spend eternity? heaven or hell?
in his service

so...a story. on saturday before and after the UT game Nicki (my girlfriend) and i were handing out tracts to different people. and it was great! i saw several people take the cards and read them front and back. tailgaters, college students, families lots of people. i even left one at dunkin donuts! in the credit card slot at a gas pump, lots of cool places that you can give/leave for people to find. but i need your help in this. things were going so great on saturday and i was really pumped about all the cool things god was doing...until this one guy didnt take my tract. and i knew it was going to happen and i kept telling myself that it would, and finally it did. and i cant say that looking back i shouldnt have tried to give it to him, because everybody needs jesus, and i was just doing what i need to do. the problem was/is- after that i shut down. i didnt know what to do or how to act. she even reminded me about all the good things that we had done that day, but all i could think about was the one bad thing that happened. i mean it was so bad i forgot to tell her about the two that i gave out in the next couple of days (the little tokyo workers didnt know i had left one, but they were cussing and fussing when they found it- hey at least they heard the gospel...) and then this woman at the bank was awesome. david ivarson and i went to the bank on tuesday and the lady was talking to us like normal and we were joking with her and just having a pretty good time. when it was time for us to leave she told us "yall have made my day. thanks for being nice" or something like that. and so i asked her if she had facebook, she said that she didnt, so i asked her if her kids did- and of course they did. so i handed her a tract that just said "facebook" on the front and told her to check out the facts on the back at somepoint that day and walked away. just as we got to the door she yelled at us "HEY!" and i thought she was mad, but she had a huge smile on her face and said "i bet this card will make my day!" and all i said as i said a little prayer for her was "i sure hope it does"
i guess what im asking for is just some encouragement in prayers. i know that everything we do for the cause of christ is great! and i want to do more of it, but i dont want it to be like a job. i want to do it out of the joy of my heart, and i dont want to be to harsh on myself. help me to keep a proper perspective of what i should/need/want to be doing. god is good and i know that he will take care of me, but some friendly prayers wont hurt anything. but once again...you better be extra careful what you pray for- especially if its for me- because you just might be the person i come talking to...or trying to give you a tract. let me ask you this. if you died just after reading this great rambling...where would you spend eternity? heaven or hell?

Pudge Poll #7
id just like to say that last weekend i got 10 out of 10 picks right on the espn fantasy college pickem. not to brag, but ive only been picking 3 weeks and im already in the top 50 percentile. and im three weeks behind some of those chumps. im kinda mad i havent been doing it all year cause i bet id be in the 85-95 percentile. whatever. im a football geek.
25. Oklahoma State (4-1) well how about that. the cowboys sneak back in, mainly because they won without their star wideout dez bryant(for having improper relations with primetime)
24. Oklahoma (3-2) well sammy bradford came back and they rolled over baylor. do you think that it was a good enough tune-up for the red river shootout this week vs texas?
23. UTC Mocs (4-1) i mean a conference road win is big in my book. BJ continues to play very well for the mocs. i hope that they continue to do so. georgia southern this week will be another big game.
22. South Carolina (5-1) well they did win, but they struggled something terrible against kensucky. couldnt figure out how to stop randall cobb. this great D that they are built upon has given up some big numbers to some bad offenses. but they somehow beat ole miss....
21. Ole Miss (3-2) well losing on the road to a top 25 team and getting beat by the #2 team i guess doesnt hurt that bad. need a good win from the rebels or they are toast.
20. Nebraska (4-1) beat former pudge poll member missouri soundly. big 12 stock seems to be slipping this year with the exception of okla and texas.
19. YOU PICK- (houston, notre dame, utah)
18. Penn State (5-1) you get no write up for beating eastern illinois like a drum.
17. South Florida (5-0) beating cuse and fsu helps, we will see how they do this week against cincy in a nationally televised game. huge for the big east.
16. BYU (5-1) continues to roll along. two weeks they play the biggest game of the year for either team. tcu vs byu
15. Ohio State (5-1) yeah they whooped wisconsin, but they scored on 2 pick sixes and ran a kickoff back for a td. qb terrell pryor put up crompton like numbers. 5-13 for 87 and no tds.
14. Kansas (5-0) man oh man. same song different verse this week. won again. still havent played anybody. maybe todd reesing will get some heisman hype instead of jimmy clausen.
13. Georgia Tech (5-1) well they ran for 400 yards and scored 49 points. on fsu. now they play vtech in a huge bcs bowl game implications.
12. Iowa (6-0) went on the road to the big house and beat michigan. their D could be legit, well until they play a good team in a bowl game.
11. Oregon ( 5-1) they beat ucla without their qb, rb, and best db. pretty tough when you consider what the qb does for them. good for the ducks and im glad to see them rebound since the upset at boise.
10. Miami (4-1) routed FAMU. big suprise. still alive if they can get some help. will finish in the top ten.
9. TCU (5-0) went on the road and beat triple option team air force. they need to have a big win over byu in a few weeks. head coach gary patterson continues to lead a very good program.
8. USC (4-1) lots of people are starting the best one loss team debate and i have USC 3rd. beat oregon and win another title might get them 2nd. but the media might have their way and somehow get them to the bcs game opposite the sec champ.
7. LSU ( 5-1) getting beat by the defending champs doesnt cost you that much. but i see lsu dropping quickly in the west as alabama continues to dominate. is auburn the #2 team in the west? time will tell.
6. Boise State(5-0) got jumped by a team this week for lack of a weak schedule. could be a theme developing here...get in a real conf boise.
5. Cincinnati (5-0) coming out of the bye week i see them beatin south florida. they question will not be about the bearcats running the table. the question will be if they can A-jump boise in real life, and B- will the media let an undefeated big east team play for it all against the sec winner?
4. Texas (5-0) the longhorns are good. dont get me wrong. and IF...IF they get a win over oklahoma that will def help them out. they just dont seem to have it clicking yet this year. and they didnt look that good until late against...colorado?
3. Virginia Tech (5-1) beat the crap out of boston college and continues to set themselves up for a big big bowl game...
2. Alabama (6-0) i should give them more credit for going on the road and beating ole miss...but i dont. i was really high on the rebels to start the year, but they havent dont anything yet. however...the rebs did slow bama down some- made them kick 5 field goals, but they didnt do anything on offense. 3 pts really? tide has everything needed for a national title run this year. and next. write that down.
1. Florida (5-0) how good are the gators? they go on the road to one of the toughest venues around...and get a win on a saturday night. something that lsu had won 37 or 38 in a row. oh and this wasnt the typical florida offense. there was almost zero tim tebow. it was all dive run plays with moody, demps, and rainey. a pretty good combo nonetheless. and once they realize that their D was crushing the tigers they just wanted to run out the clock. plus the missed a short fg and didnt even try another. does 23-3 sound a lot better? cause thats about what the score really was.
until next week.

"Orange Colored Glasses- Auburn"
this really might be the last orange colored glasses post for a while. at least until we see some change with the big orange. every week its the same ol mess. ran well, dplayed pretty good, special teams was average (until the auburn game), and qb play was cromptoned. but here goes nothing.
Good News: montario hardesty continues his bid for sec offensive player of the year with 160 yds. luke stocker had a 40yd catch. the "nuke gun" had a 40 yd run on one play. jon crompton didnt throw any picks, and was at least throwing to open guys.. D held auburn to half of their average of points.
Bad News: well...we lost by four with a missed FG and a blocked PAT. 3+1=4. you do the math. crompton was his usual self, but at least this time he was throwing to guys who were open..but they forgot how to catch. 6 drops? are you kidding me?!? our older wideouts are playing terrible. and our younger ones arent playing at all. somebody explain to me why we refuse to run the "nuke gun" or the "g-gun" all of college football runs it and runs it well. but us. i mean we have probably only run it 5 times all year and have 80 yds and td out of it. (just a guess on the yardage but its probably close.) also- can we get a turnover on defense please? and finally the worst news of all- espn showed a 10-15 second montage of eric berry "missing" tackles. all that means is that he wont win any awards for this year cause they are gonna hype taylor mays who plays for usc #7 in the land while EB plays for the #77 team. and yes he did miss a few tackles, but what they didnt show was him coming all the way from the other side of the field trying to make them! and what about the 12-15 a game he does make? and what about every single play goes AWAY FROM HIM. he is still #2 on the mel kiper big board for next years draft. in my life time he is probably the third best player that ive ever seen behind manning and tebow- and just imagine if he had the ball as much as those guys. oh well. maybe we can get his little brothers some day.
Georgia Prediction: uh. they suck too. best offensive run game- UT. best defense against the run- UGA. best offensive passing attack- UGA best defense against the pass- UT. best special teams- UGA. as big of a UT fan as i am i just cant get excited about our team right now. and nick stephens is not the answer. go look at his stats. he is worse than crompton. so i say unless we get a defensive or special teams td we cant muster enough on offense to beat them. final score= dawgs-23 vols-17. oh wait? eric berry is still playing this week? ok 24-23 big orange.
hope for the future= not nick stephens. itll be either juco tranfer and current redshirt nick lamison, or the kid who has committed to us that was tebow's backup a year or so ago. and i cant remember his name and im too lazy to look it up. maybe bram cannon will play for us this week.

Pudge Poll Week 6
ok i know that i skipped last week, but it was kinda busy for me and there were so many upsets i wanted to wait and see how the games played out this past weekend to get a better idea. example usc/cal, uga/lsu oklahoma/miami. and now we know.
2nd of all id like to remind you of the playoff system that is setup in college football. its kind of like the little league world series. you have the US bracket and the World bracket and as they play out they come down to a winner of each and they play for the title. well in college football we have the SEC bracket and the EVERYBODY ELSE bracket. think about that. a one loss or undefeated team from the sec that wins the sec championship will play for the title against a team from another conference. anyways. here is the latest.
25. Oklahoma (2-2) pretty much because they have lost to 2 pretty good teams- without their heisman winning qb. lose to texas?? see ya
24. Bryan Alumni(?) a daunting lineup of old returned and restored their rightful place in history. a special shout out to taylor, deal, rojo, bdub, eli, miah, mike, luke, day, drew, newman, hicks, bondo, jd, dz and myself.
23. UTC (3-1) maybe its coaching, maybe it BJ Coleman, but the mocs are 8th in the nation in attendance fbs of course but still. and here is the thing- they are beating teams with less talent- and no hope of a the postseason. they are playing to win and doing so. ps- BJ has 900yds and 9tds through 4 games and completes 64% of his passes. and only one pick. but he cant play...
22. South Carolina (4-1) a newcomer to the pudge poll, but with a stout D and a few wins under their belts- ill take them. two backs averaging SIX yards per carry. and it seems as if the visored one has gotten stephen garcia playing well. finally.
21. Nebraska (3-1) blowout wins and a loss to VTech. this week against missouri will answer a lot of questions about both.
20. Missouri (4-0) undefeated, but have played NOBODY. we will see after nebraska, okalhoma state, and texas get done with them.
19. Penn State (4-1) high expectations fall hard when you lose to the only decent team that you play all year. what is that? is that the "overrated" chant i hear? i think so
18. South Florida (5-0) i have been high on south florida for some time now-check out my facebook notes for me. head coach jim leavitt has done a great job over the years and is on the way to another good season. without senior dual threat qb matt grothe the bulls have plugged in true freshman qb bj daniels and he has accounted for 900yds and 9 tds. and they only give up 9 pts a game.
17. Iowa (5-0) a great win over penn state...and then squeak by against arkansas state. we will see. but for the sake of dilts i hope they win the crappy conference they play in.
16. Ole Miss (3-1) well...?? they returned a lot of players from a top ten team...and then came out and laid an egg so far. the biggest win is over the swine flu. seriously.
15. BYU (4-1) a top 25 program for sure, but anybody who thinks that a school from a small conference can compete every week with the big boys is crazy.
14. Kansas (4-0) well they keep winning...and they play in a good conference. big games still remain. texas, oklahoma, nebraska, and missouri. but qb todd reesing is still a heisman darkhorse. directs an offense that scores 40 pts per and already tossed 1100 yds...\
13. Georgia Tech (4-1) i like 'em. what can i say. and i think that they have the tools to do some good things. i cant wait to see them play fsu and vtech in back to back weeks.
12. Ohio State (4-1) speaking of the overrated chant. the suckeyes have played one team with a winning record...and lost. closing out the season with iowa, penn st, and michigan will determine pretty much everything for the big 10
11. Oregon (4-1) after a tough loss to boise they ducks have rallied to win four in a row. qb jeremiah masoli has the offense rolling and the D looked great after holding pudge poll no show cal to three pts. could be pac10 champs...
10. Miami (3-1) well i guess the canes are back. wins over fsu, gtech, and oklahoma at least put them on the map. and the bad news for the rest of the nation- they are still located in talent rich south florida- where head coach randy shannon is getting as much as he can. and "The U" is starting the play with the swagger of old..
9. TCU (4-0) qb andy dalton continues to lead the hornedfrogs well by completing only 66% of his passes...now that utah seems to be pretty weak it hurts their schedule. gotta beat byu to remain in it.
8. USC (4-1) that loss to washington looks worse and worse every week. but the good news is they reminded cal of who is boss in the pac10. now itll be down to them and oregon for supremecy in the pete carroll invitation.
7. Cincinnati (5-0) hey just blow out everybody brian kelly. and have qb tony pike throw for 1200 yds while youre at it. if youre not doing anything on thursday night, you need to check out cincy and south florida play for the big east bcs spot.
6. Boise State (5-0) theyve done it right. you get a heisman darkhorse qb- kellon moore. win your first game on national tv against a pretty good program- oregon. then play nobody at all the rest of the year and when you wind up 12-0 you can cry for the bcs vote. hey go join the pac 10.
5. Virginia Tech (4-1) qb tyrod taylor has answered any and all questions about how well he can throw. and as long as youre not alabama hes gonna do what he wants against you. techinally they are still alive in the "everybody else" bracket. i mean if they win out? it could happen. good wins already on their resume plus a conference title...
4.LSU (5-0) alright. another team still alive in the "sec bracket" after a big road win over georgia, the tigers seems to be headed in the right direction. looks to be between them and alabama for the west. btw les miles is a moron. intense sure, a winner sometimes, a bad hat wearer all the time.
3. Texas (4-0) the big 12 favorite seem to be as good as promised. however, this is not colt mccoy's turn to win the heisman. not yet its not. obviously the team has great talent and needs to win the red river shootout to have a chance. losing to a 2 loss oklahoma team wouldnt be good. upset alert- in three weeks after playing oklahoma, missouri they play ok st. 3 big games in 3 weeks. last year at the end of the gauntlet the lost a great game to texas tech...im saying cowboys..
1-a. Alabama (5-0) i hate alabama. but as a highly paid college football junkie...eh ok im not getting paid- yet. i just look and see a team with better running backs than usc, a good enough qb, and a great D. as long as they dont let themselves get in the way as they did last year..it could be a really really really good rematch in atlanta for it all.
1. Florida (4-0) lets talk about the team of destiny. during the off week your do it all qb and greatest of all time tim tebow get to rest up from getting knocked out. oh and the team they play....just played a really tough game on the road while you were at home. see you in atlanta.

"Orange Colored Glasses- Ohio"
first of all i want to say that im sorry i didnt put out a top 25 this week, but with all of the upsets, and a busy week for me, im gonna give it another day to let some more dust settle. auburn, cal, oklahoma, miami, lsu, georgia will all have big tests this weekend. but looking back...
the good news: well once again we were able to run the ball quite well. im telling ya i like our backs a lot. hardesty runs really hard and brown could be the next big thing. the both always seem to fall forward which is a good thing- and so far- knock on wood- theyve been able to hang on to the ball. oline played pretty well, when we needed to run we did and when we tried to throw it wasnt because of a lack of protection that we didnt do well. it seemed like the lanetrain wanted us to come out throwing and see what we could do against a better D than wku and we forced some, and basically when it came down to it we ran all over them when we needed it most. nobody has been able to tell me why hardesty didnt play much in the first half....
the bad news: by the end of the game we were down 5 starters on D. the bobcats constantly picked on brent vinson. crompton was...well..himself. and we gave up td return on a kickoff! dang! i remember watching it thinking surely someone will get in his lane...and nope. he just housed it.
auburn prediction- well. who knows. we need our D to play like they did against florida. we need to run like we have all year. im not so sure that auburn has a lot of quality wins in their 4, but then again neither do we. and they average 45pts a game. i think that we will be able to slow them down, but im not sure that we will be able to score. seems to be a trend huh? crompton and chris todd will make 3-5 plays that will cost their team dearly, but will either make 1 or 2 plays to help their team win? im saying a daniel lincoln fg wins it late. 24-21 big orange!

"Be Careful What You Pray For"
hey guys i just wanted to take a minute and kind of give an update as to what god is doing in my life these days. i mean besides giving me tons and tons of great things, and blessing me more than i could ever imagine, god is starting to really challenge me and it sure is kicking my butt. sunday school continues to go well- and for the last two weeks we have even had food!! thanks stephen and sara.
on wednesday nights at our church we have a university system where we offer a bunch of different classes for people to take. this semester we have intro to guitar, creation vs evolution, cults, women's bible studies, us history, and an evangelism class called "the way of the master" (which is the same as the kirk cameron/ray comfort book- basically we have a work book and dvd to follow along with) so when this came out and i saw the lineup and thought, "oh yeah i could do that. it probably would be a good thing for me to learn to do..." uh yeah. well it is. but sure isnt easy. the first couple of weeks we have just learned about the good things that god promises us when we witness, and also we talked about what is/what isnt evangelism. since then we have gotten into some discussion about numbers(and being baptist thats what its all about right?) but just hear me out. on the baptist rolls there are 16.4 million people, of those only 6 million attend church, and of those most estimate that only 50%are actually christians(having accepted jesus as lord and savior) so right then and there i think provides a pretty hefty amount of people that we can witness to. but here is another number that just flat out embarrasses me-2. as is only 2% of christians share their faith. sadly i fall into the 98 rather than the 2. but as this class continues to move forward i have noticed more and more the people and places that i am in and the chance that i have to witness to people. and im sure if most of you think about it you will start to recognize it as well. then most of you will start to give excuses. well we covered that too. of all the great people in the bible we looked at daniel, jeremiah, paul, moses, isaiah and they all gave excuses when god called them. im too young, cant speak, im weak, i stutter, i dont know what to say. and in every single case god told them that it wasnt their power, but his. not their words, but his. and basically was saying- listen there is not an excuse you can give me, because im going to do the work anyways. and man thats tough to hear. so i kind of half heartedly started praying that god would give me some people that i could witness to. and i of course didnt think he would. boy was i wrong. all im going to say is be careful what you pray for. twice on saturday i was presented with an opportunity to witness to someone...and...well ill be generous and say i was 1 for 2. i was waiting to pay and a man was standing there and i could have easily said something to him, but i just didnt. and man did i cry afterwards. i was so shaken up by that. id never really experienced anything like it. talk about rattled. and then after the game on the way back to the truck my girlfriend and i were stopped by a man i thought need directions, but instead he was asking for money. once i realized what was going on i didnt care about the couple of bucks anymore all i saw was a chance to witness with this man. and i did the best i could, prayed with him, gave him the money and we went our own way. luckily we werent too far from the truck because i barely could walk. and yes i cried like a baby again. i dont know why either. it just whooped me physically and emotionally and lets not even talk about spiritually. so ive been praying that i dont ever get over the seriousness of the situation, but maybe if i could learn to control my emotions a little bit better afterwards would be great. im not gonna lie though im kind of scared because i see how god has answered my prayers so far. and even as i sit here and write- my hands are shaking pretty bad, my heart is racing, and ive teared up some just thinking about it. this really is something that i cant do by myself and i will be praying that god gives me what i need to do it. so pray for me, but be careful- you might be one that i come and talk to sometime. are you ready for that?

"Orange Colored Glasses- Florida"
one of my favorite coaching qoutes comes from one of the greatest coaches of all time regardless of sport. "you show me a good loser, and ill show you a loser" vince lombardi. thats the way i feel about tennessee fans. there is no such thing as a good loss, or a good loser, gracious sure, but never good. our record doesnt say 1-1 and one good game vs florida. BUT, they always say that you can learn more from a loss instead of a win. and i think we learned a lot this past week. we learned that our defense is way above average-and we are still short on dlinemen and linebackers. it will be scary to see how good we can be in the next couple of year with all the talent we are bringing in. and of course having one of the greatest defensive minds ever doenst hurt...we also learned that we can run the rock. a staple of the great football. you gotta be able to run it or you cant win. and i dont blame the laintrain. i wouldve run all day too-heck we had a chance and didnt throw it but 20 times. and you mean to tell me that if we wouldve come out chunking it crompton wouldve been able to get us a dub? doubtful. and to quote cousin rob "please tell everybody that bryce brown is the future of UT football." and while i agree, im not quite ready to name him the truth yet, he is averaging over 5 yds per carry, and so is hardesty for that matter.
GOOD NEWS= we ran the ball like crazy, which will give us hope in games against auburn and georgia. south carolina and ole miss might have changed places but running the ball will keep us in the game against them too. and we still play great defense. doesnt matter the coach, our D has always been top-notch. that fact alone will keep us in a lot of games, plus a good running attack could make us scary. and both of our backs get more than 5 yards per touch. they are the best playmakers we have and im ok with that. the wideouts and tightends are hurt by the qb play. and hey special teams didnt/hasnt/isnt killing us.... and we held floridas vaunted offense to ZERO plays over 20yds. (long of 17-not bad guys)
BAD NEWS= while some people think that crompton didnt cost us the game i disagree, yes he played better and he didnt force anything (the first pick was a bad throw not forced and the second...what the heck kind of call was that lane?) but he didnt allow us to spread the field and attack vertical. his inability to find open recievers boggles my mind. thus making it harder for us to run against a 8 or 9 stack front. other than that i dont really have any complaints this week. and it looks like nick reviez isnt as bad as i thought he would be...but cmon how many other programs start a former walk-on at mlb? heck utc doesnt even do that.
OHIO- well id say that the vols bounce back against the bobcats. i dont really know much about them but this- last year they almost upset the buckeyes---without their starting qb. oh and former nebraska coach and player frank solich is their head coach. but i seriously doubt that they will have enough talent to play with us. and im hoping that it rains a lot so that the game is forced to the ground- where i feel like we will have the advantage. too bad i think that lane wants to air it out, i just hope it doesnt cost us. if we held tim tebow to 33 pts i think a team without him at qb shouldnt score more than about 7. final score vols-30 bobcats-7
other news- as i was talking with my buddy jordan thompson, he reminded me that urban is gone. and i agree. and ive said it before, after another terrible season weis is gone and meyer is in. they can give him whatever he wants. 8mil per year? check. every home game on national tv? check. easy schedule every year? check. cmon folks he aint staying after tebow is gone. the end of the florida dynasty is in jan. but as for the vols....

Pudge Poll Week 4
Ladies and Gentlemen may i present to you the greatest playoff system in all the world. A week by week elimination process so that at the end of the year only one team will remain. this week eliminated from championship dreams USC, BYU, and not that they were serious, but if you win it all...UTAH and Georgia Tech. so lets see what the new pudge poll looks like.
25. Washington (2-1 lw=NR) well they played with one of the best teams in the nation LSU, and then shocked the world by beating USC last week(more on that later)
24. Nebraska (2-1 lw=21) i cant fault the cornhuskers for going on the road and losing to what i think is one of the best teams in the nation on a last second touchdown virginia tech. but the teams that the huskers play are starting to hurt them...weak.
23. Michigan (3-0 lw= 25) i mean lets be honest. they are probably ahead of schedule, but i really dont like them all that much. i just hope brother gary reads this and sees that the wolverines keep moving up...
22. Cincinnati(3-0 lw=23) bearcats to the BCS. write that down. after thrashing the early competition i saw them beat a decent team in oregon state(who actually dropped from my poll) i see them rising quickly in the Pudge Poll.
21. Kansas (3-0 lw=23) another win for the jayhawks. another spot up in the poll. im ready to see them play somebody soon...
20. UNC (3-0 lw=22) the tarheels beat last years upset specialist east carolina this week but the last time the were on the road they barely survived. i dont think that they will this week at georgia tech.
19. Oregon (2-1 lw NR) after exiting the pudge poll for a week they upset utah and earned their way back in. right now i think that the pac10 is still up in the air. heres to hoing the ducks pull out some upsets...
18. Georgia (2-1 lw= 15) man i cant help but keep the dogs from dropping. yes they won a shoot out again this week...but word to mark richt and willie martinez-fellas you coach in the sec, the conference that actually plays defense...i suggest you take note. joe cox continues to look good.
17. TCU (3-0 lw=17) not sold on the hornedfrogs yet. especially since conference top dogs utah and byu both went down itll be up to them to carry the torch in the supposedly "tough" mountian west. we will see as they travel to clemson. im taking the tigers...
16a. Oklahoma State (2-1 lw=14) they beat rice. so what. now they play grambling state? im tired of the hype of the cowboys.
16b. Ohio State (i dont care) i actually forgot them this week but dont feel too bad. ill pay attention next week.
15. BYU (2-1 lw=11) so much for that national title. i mean still give them credit for the win over oklahoma, but they proved that once again teams from smaller conferences cant beat the big boys week after week. sure they beat okla-but they prepped all summer, give them a week for FSU they lost. just like utah last year. give them a month for bama and the stole a dub, but let them play sec ball...8-4 at best. cougars or utes for that matter.
14. FSU(2-1 lw=NR) i mean yeah they got beat by miami, but the canes seem to be better than expected, and they travled all the way to utah and stomped on the cougars and max hall's heisman hopes. christian ponder finally looks like the qb bobby wanted..
13. Georgia Tech (2-1 lw=10) yet another team on the miami loss train. got outplayed from the start. couldnt slow down heisman darkhorse harris and lets face it the triple option doesnt really work well when playing from behind...and also the defense didnt seem to play as well as usual. the acc will be fun to watch. FSU, Georgia Tech, Miami, and Virginia Tech...
12. USC (2-1 lw=2) well the trojans always seems to lose at least one. i dont know what it is about them. maybe it was the loss of star qb matt barkley or best defender taylor mays, or could it be two road trips in a row? who knows what it is. but they are always almost there. just like this year.
11. Miami (2-0 lw=18) so what theyve only won two games. they have beaten two top 15 teams in each one and qb jacory harris is starting to gain lots of heisman talk. but listen to this. 70% comp. 650 yds. 5tds. not bad. plus the canes have a beavy of south florida talent. coach randy shannon could be on the verge of something special but vtech and okla in back to back weeks could be tough.
10. Oklahoma (2-10 lw=12) i dont know how to explain this one...but when your qb throws for 6tds thats got to mean something. texas seems to be the cream of the crop, but they need sam bradford back and in a hurry.
9. California (3-0 lw=16) so the golden bears are rocketing up the pudge poll. and for good reason. rb jahvid best is sick. almost 8 yds a carry. 450 yds and 8 tds. heisman ballots better have him on there for sure.
8. Virginia Tech (2-1 lw=9) qb tyrod taylor finally showed that he can pass too. it took him until that last minute of the game, but he got it done. still can win this suddenly tough conference.
7. Boise State (3-0 lw=9) and here comes the best team in the best flag football league in america. seriously give me a break. in what was a "classic" game of two hand touch over fresno state (remember them? coach pat hill was going to put them on the map...question is.where is fresno exactly? get my point.) boise will probably run the table and then complain about not getting a shot to play for it all.
6. Penn State (3-0 lw=7) models of consistancy. 31-7, 28-7, 31-6. three games. three wins. and another spot up the pudge poll. but after ohio state lost another big game the nittany lions better win out if they want to play for the ship. a one loss team from the big ten doesnt get in. remember that. put it on a tshirt or something.
heres a question for you pudge...why havent i seen any sec teams in your poll? well here is why. 4 of the top 5 are from the big boy conference.
5. LSU (3-0 lw=6) the hat aka les miles has the tigers rocking and rolling. dual threat qb jordan jefferson has lead them thus far, but once the competition stiffens i imagine that things might be a bit different for them...
4. Ole Miss (2-0 lw=4) like i said in my preseason picks- they have the toughest games on their schedule at home. that bodes well for them. qb jevan snead and dexter mccluster continue to play well.
3. Alabama (3-0 lw=5) im sure that lots of people are thinking it, but after the end of last season and the debacle that was the sugar bowl they are afraid to say it. is bama the best team in the nation? maybe so. its too bad that they cant play forida best two of three for the title. awesome running game with ingram and upchurch. defense could be the best in the country. we will see what happens as there are a lot of good teams in the west and im not sure that any will come out unscathed. bama has the best shot because of the D and running game. but they also have the biggest question mark at qb. can greg mcelroy manage to stay nearly perfect??
2. Texas (3-0 lw=3) great revenge win for mack brown and co against texas tech. good news about colt mccoy- he isnt leading the team in rushing this year. bad news- he has 6tds and 4ints. that number should be a little bit different for the "best team in the nation- not in the sec"
1. Florida (3-0 lw=1) and here we find the best team in the east, the sec, and the nation. maybe tennesse showed how you can slow the gators down, but they didnt show how you can stop them. the main reason is number 15 himself. and lets remember this people tebow fumbled once going into the endzone that couldve made it 30-13 and if not for an nfl caliber, heisman trophy stealing pick by eric berry who knows what they wouldve done. what would you say if it was 33-13 or 33-10. gators dont look so beatable do they? i mean the only reason why ole miss beat them last year was 6 turnovers. so i guess if you can make them turn it over they are beatable, but you better not give it back to them. or if you really want to win find a way to make sure that tebow cant leave his hotel room or something. he makes them the best team in the nation. end of discussion.

Orange Colored Glasses- UCLA
Well well well...or not so well. i mean i thought that it would be a good thing that i didnt recap this game right away, but it seems like the more i distance myself from this debacle the worse it gets. and before i go any further answer me this- "would you rather watch your favorite team get beat at home in a game they shouldve won, or have a flat tire after the game?" cause i got to do both.
but lets talk about the good things of the game- ok moving on.
haha no seriously there were some good things to point out. punter chad cunningham had almost a 50yd avg which is pretty darn good. kicker daniel lincoln kicked 4 successful field goals- too bad he only got credit for 2 of them. and lets be honest our D played extremely well. their average field position was at the plus 37 for for the game and only one qtr did they average starting on the opposite side of midfield. and we still held those jokers to 19 pts and 185 yds of offense. that doesnt bode well for them the rest of the year. and its pretty crazy that we have only given up 268 and 26 so far. we might do that in the first half against florida. but other than another stand out defensive performance and a pretty good one on special teams- which will play a major factor in several games for us this year that about it. i say that they will be important- and when you look at how good our D is and then how poorly we have played on offense at stretches it may take a fg or a good punt return or something of that nature to get us an extra win.
now for the bad- 4 turnovers from your qb in 4 straight possessions should get you beat against most anybody. but despite all that, we still had the ball twice in the last 4 min and couldnt score to win. we did run for 150 yds, but when we needed a yard the most, we couldnt get it. which i do question that call from all of our great coaches. and yes i do have hindsight bias. but call a better play and we win. but i think that all of our fans can agree on these next few point. A- our top wideout gerald jones had zero catches. B- our leading reciever coming into the game marsellous teague had zero catches. C- nukese richardson didnt have a touch on offense. so why do we not get the ball to our best playmakers? somebody answer me this. i dont care how you do it but get them the ball. oh and here is another thing. i dont give a dang about next year. let EB do whatever he can to help us win. i mean its like the colts telling manning "hey peyton we only want you to play in the 1st and 3rd. ok?" yeah you get my point why take your best player out when he can help you. lanetrain- hes not coming back, but he could get you some wins this year. (side note- go check out our recruits coming in. sick defensive linemen)
worse news- and this is not a phil fulmer/lane kiffin thing. crompton will be our qb. dont fault fulmer for recruiting him- he was ranked #2 in the nation coming out of high school. dont fault kiffin for playing him. lets face it- if nick stephens cant beat out crompton under two different staffs then he just cant beat him out- i say he is worse. they arent going to play stephens i dont think, because if they do, then they look like morons for not playing BJ- who btw is lighting up the socon. and lets be honest even if BJ/stephen is qb its not like we were gonna go 14-0 and they think that crompton can get UT 7-9 wins this year. of course im sure that they were counting ucla a dub just like i was.
florida prediction= seeing how i am a realist i didnt see that this game was going to be a win even before the ucla game. we are a 30 pt underdog- maybe never has happened in UT history before. but i wouldnt take the points if i were you. sure we can slow them down a little with our defense, but they will still have some drives and they will still score some. what you cant count on is how many times will we give them a short field/touchdown because of a turnover? or will return specialist brandon james get his 4th td return in 4 games against the vols? just for arguments sake say we do kick it away from him all game, and we dont turn it over, and we do slow them down...how in the world are we going to score? we only scored 13 pts on offense last week-7 of those coming on a 12 td run after a fumble. and that was against ucla- a middle of the road team...in the pac-10!!! and lets be real. florida has beat the crap out of us the last 2 years anyways. and even if they do run it up-which im sure that they will in some way- just think how sweet the revenge will be in knoxville next year. final score. florida-42 tennessee-3
some more food for thought. any true UT fan would tell you we would lose to florida, alabama, and ole miss this year, not that they want them to, but realistically we dont have much of a shot. wku was a great win and ucla was a great loss. lets not get too bent out of shape about our team. wait until the gaunlet of auburn, south carolina, and georgia come through and then we will talk about where we stand.

Pudge Poll Week 3
wow. i seem to be bad news for teams i pick(oregon, fsu, tennessee, oklahoma) but whatever. im getting better. hope this newest pudge poll will help you. and yes, there are some big changes this week.
25. Michigan(2-0 lw= NR) ok i dont really think that the wolverines are back to the big time just yet, and never ever will a win over notre dame get you there. BUT they did beat nd and they were 3-9 last year. they already have 2 wins this year. frosh qb tate forcier could be richrod's new pat white but better of course.
24. Cincinnati (2-0 lw=NR) and no i dont have them in here just because the reds are already out of the playoffs. but they started out the year beating rutgers and then routing some directional school, but mainly its because i really like their head coach brian kelly and i think that he has done a pretty solid job thus far at cincy. they have a decent schedule this year. @rutgers, @oregon state, west virgina, @south florida, fresno state, uconn, illinois. i know that none of those teams are world beaters, but they are all decent and depending on how the bearcats do, i could see them getting the bcs nod from the big least. excuse me. big east.
23. Kansas (2-0 lw=23) ok the jawhawks keep winning, but they havent played anybody yet. and they wont until the end of the month. but i do think that they are a good enough team to stay in my top 25.
22. UNC (2-0 lw=20) i just dont give the tarheels enough credit i guess, but it took a uconn turnover on downs to seal the win for them at the end of the game. a 12-10 game at that. as one of my former teachers used to say "points off" agreed?
21. Nebraska (2-0 lw=22) the cornhuskers have a chance to make a stand this weekend against vatech and really make some moves up the pudge poll. this will be the first time that the D has been tested seeing how they have only given up 12 pts in the first two wins against nobodies.
20. Utah (2-0 lw=21) the utes play the ducks in a make or break game for both teams. bad news- the utes are on the road. good news- the ducks arent as good as promised.
19. Oregon State (2-0 lw=19) i think im ready to trade the beavers for the cal bears. i have nothing good nor bad to say about them. and everybody likes cal...so maybe ill join in.
18. Miami (1-0 lw=NR) basically i swapped them for the seminoles. won a thrilling game to start the year. qb jacory williams leads the hurricanes in their chase back to average. tough games coming up against gtech, vtech, and oklahoma. good luck.
17. TCU (1-0 lw=18) the hornedfrogs actually played a game and guess what, they moved up!
16. Cal (2-0 lw NR) heres the deal. Cal shouldve been in my top 25 all along. sorry i just overlooked them, kinda like steve spurrier overlooking tebow on his allsec ballot. they have scored over 50pts each game. junior qb kevin riley is completing over 75% of his passes and heisman darkhorse jahvid best has 300 yds and 3tds already. my bad. next 3 weeks are killer. @minnesota, #oregon, then host usc.
15. Georgia (1-1 lw=16) well qb joe cox finally had his coming out party last week against sc. defense still looks pretty shaky giving up 37 pts to putrid gamecock offense. injuries are mounting for the dawgs as they have lost LT sturdivant and DT lott are both done for the year.
14. Oklahoma State (1-1 lw=7) classic lastgame/nextgame theory case hear. they were def looking back to last week's win over georgia and got beat by houston. credit to houston for getting the win, but its losses like this one that will keep the cowboys for winning anything worth while. still have great weapons, just cant put it together.
13. Ohio State (1-1 lw=9) i mean really? did it suprise anybody that they lost? it was ohio state playing in a big game on the national level. im so sick of hearing about the freaking big ten and how great of a football conference it is. they dont have any good teams and dont ever win big games. if they cant be a team with a true freshman at qb, at home, with a lead, in the 4th qtr. then they just cant do it. but they probably finish with a good record and play bcs. and get beat by another good team. i hate ohio state. jim tressell=ok. pryor=hes ok too. the rest suck.
12. Oklahoma (1-1 lw=14) credit to stoops and the boys for bouncing back big time and getting a 64-0 win. if sam bradford doesnt come back i think they might be in for a long season. still several tough games remaining and while this week is a step up from last(tulsa up from idaho state) we will see when they travel to miami in two weeks.
11. BYU (2-0 lw=13) the cougars of byu continue to climb in the pudge poll. upsetting oklahoma and trashing tulane. they really have a lot of tools on offense and their D is def good enough to help out. schedule sets up nicely for them. look for them in my top ten soon.
10. Georgia Tech (2-0 lw=12) i mean ill be honest. i like gtech. i love the triple option that they run. and the game on thursday was sick against clemson. both teams played really well and the yellowjackets got the win. they play on thursday again this week in a big game against miami. oh and hey if they throw it, they are throwing it to #8. hes got 197 yds and theyve only throw for 224. haha.
9. Virgina Tech (1-1 lw=11) i have the hokies a little bit higher than most of the nationl media, but then again i think that they are still a very good team. they bounced back after a very tough loss to bama and thrashed marshall by 42 pts. nebraska this week and miami the next will determine if the hokies are for real or not.
8. Boise State (2-0 lw=10) well, i know that the broncos upset the ducks and then beat miami of ohio like a drum, but the shine is starting to fade. and is it really an upset of the ducks if boise state turned out to be the better team and were playing on their blue turf home field? i see them falling very soon even if they keep winning. no real reason except weak schedule. and dont cry to me about the bcs. play in a real conference, and by that i mean one with a championship game.
7. Penn State (2-0 lw=8) they have won both. they have only given up 7pts in both. they played nobodies in both. and now that ohio state choked again...their schedule is starting to look weaker and weaker by the week..haha. maybe michigan can prove to be a valuable foe..but we will see.
6. LSU (2-0 lw=5) yeah theyve dropped in the poll, and theyve won. but i just think that bama is better thats all. a west coast scare and beating vandy dont really get you much, a good team but 3rd best. in the west.
5. Alabama (2-0 lw=6) saban is a winner. he recruits well, coaches well, and wins. too bad he does it at alabama. schedule is kinda light for the next couple of weeks and we will see if bama can put some distance between them and the rest of the west. travels to ole miss in 4 weeks...
4. Ole Miss (1-0 lw=4) coach nutt may finally have the team to beat. and i think that he needs to send a personal thank you note to d-line coach ed orgeron for getting all of his players. too bad things dont look good right now for the rebels. two tough road trips (i dont care who you play in the sec its tougher on the road.) then a visit from bama...
3. Texas (2-0 lw=2) well. a win on the road at wyoming isnt exactly worth as much as a win on the road at ohio state. i still think that texas is a very good team and will more than likely play florida for the national title. they have outscored opponents 100-30 and jordan shipley is on his way to winning wideout of the year. no joke. a white kid best wideout in the nation, at least based on his stats.
2. USC (2-0 lw=3) if you want to talk about stats hear are some for you. 90yds to go. less than 5minutes left to go in the game. more than 100,000 hostile fans, and a true freshman at qb. the odds dont add up very often for success...but if you have matt barkley id at least think about it. i like usc and coach pete carroll. but i want to give them credit for getting hte ball to their best player no matter what the cost. handoff, throw to, or just snap it to him. him of course is new do it all super back joe mcknight. see you at the heisman ceremony.
1. Florida (2-0 lw=1) you can stop reading now. but in case you dont, take this for what its worth. they have yet to score less than 50 pts. they have not given up a touchdown. (for some reason i dont think that this will change this week-unless EB gets his hands on the ball somehow) oh chew on this too. tebow is averaging 10yds per attempt. attempt, not completion. mainly cause my math isnt that good. to qoute lane kiffin "when i look at their D i see 11 nfl players. when i look at their offense i see more play makers than anybody else. and then they have maybe the greatest college quarterback ever" enough said.
teams out- oregon, fsu, notre dame, iowa.
also receiving votes this week- houston, west virginia, ucla

20. Utah (2-0 lw=21) the utes play the ducks in a make or break game for both teams. bad news- the utes are on the road. good news- the ducks arent as good as promised.
